US seeks Russia's suspension from UN Human Rights Council

The United States has seeked Russia’s suspension from the United Nations Human Rights Council over images of civilians killed out of Bucha and devastation across Ukraine.

US Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield on tweets, said 140 UN Member States have already voted to condemn Russia over its unprovoked war and the humanitarian crisis it has unleashed.

She stated that her message to the 140 countries over the images of civilians out of Bucha and devastation across Ukraine required them to now match words with action.

According to her, "We cannot let a Member State that is subverting every principle we hold dear to continue to participate in the United Nations Human Rights Council".

Thomas-Greenfield noted that Russia should not have a position of authority in such body, nor should they allow Russia to use its seat on the Council as a tool of propaganda to suggest they have a legitimate concern about human rights.

Citing Bucha, where Ukrainian authorities said the bodies of 410 dead civilians have been recovered so far following mass executions by Russian troops.

As the reason for the removal request, explaining, “The images out of Bucha and devastation across Ukraine require us to now match our words with action.”
