Pelosi mourns passing of longest-serving Republican Senator

United States House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi has mourned death of Orrin Hatch, the longest-serving Republican Senator in history who represented Utah for more than four decades, died Saturday at age 88.


Pelosi who reacted to the Senator's death on her social media platform, prayed that his death should be a comfort to the deceased wife Elaine, six beloved children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that so many pray for them at this sad time.


According to her, "Congress and the Country join Utah in mourning the passing of former Senator Orrin Hatch. "The longest-serving Republican in the Senate's history, he devoted more than four decades to public service often working across the aisle on behalf of America’s families", she said.


Meanwhile, Orrin G. Hatch, became the longest-serving Republican Senator in history as he represented Utah for more than four decades, while died Saturday at age 88.


His death was announced in a statement from his foundation, which did not specify a cause. He launched the Hatch Foundation as he retired in 2019 and was replaced by Republican Mitt Romney.

A conservative on most economic and social issues, he nonetheless teamed with Democrats several times during his long career on issues ranging from stem cell research to rights for people with disabilities to expanding children's health insurance.

Orrin Hatch also formed friendships across the aisle, particularly with the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, he left with wife Elaine, six children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
