Reported images of civilians killed by Russian military in some areas of Ukraine have showed more evidences to prove that Russian President, Vladimir Putin committed war crimes, the United Kingdom Prime Minister, Boris Johnson tweeted on Sunday.
According to him, "No denial or disinformation from the Kremlin can hide what we all know to be the truth Putin is desperate, his invasion is failing, and Ukraine’s resolve has never been stronger.
Boris Johnson vowed to do everything in his power to starve Putin’s war machine. "We are stepping up our sanctions and military support, as well as bolstering our humanitarian support package to help those in need on the ground".
He said UK has been at the forefront of supporting the International Crime Court’s investigation into atrocities committed in Ukraine, authorised additional financial support and the deployment of specialist investigators.
"We will not rest until justice is served", Boris Johnson said.
Also, the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres tweeted on Sunday that he was deeply shocked by the images of civilians killed in Bucha, Ukraine. "It is essential that an independent investigation leads to effective accountability".
Canada's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau on tweets condemned murder of civilians in Ukraine, adding that Canada remain committed to holding the Russian regime accountable.
"We will continue to do everything we can to support the people of Ukraine. Those responsible for these egregious and appalling attacks will be brought to justice", he said.
Earlier, the European Commission said on tweets that it's appalling by reports of unspeakable horrors in areas from which Russia is withdrawing, called for independent investigation, adding that culprits of war crimes must be held accountable.
Meanwhile, Human Rights Watch documented several cases of Russian military forces committing laws-of-war violations against civilians in occupied areas of the Chernihiv, Kharkiv, and Kyiv regions of Ukraine.
These include a case of repeated rape; two cases of summary execution, one of six men, the other of one man; and other cases of unlawful violence and threats against civilians between February 27 and March 14, 2022.
Soldiers were also implicated in looting civilian property, including food, clothing, and firewood. Those who carried out these abuses are responsible for war crimes.
“The cases we documented amount to unspeakable, deliberate cruelty and violence against Ukrainian civilians,” said Hugh Williamson, Europe and Central Asia director at Human Rights Watch.
“Rape, murder, and other violent acts against people in the Russian forces’ custody should be investigated as war crimes.”
Human Rights Watch reported to have interviewed 10 people, including witnesses, victims, and local residents of Russia-occupied territories, in person or by telephone. Some people asked to be identified only by their first names or by pseudonyms for their protection.
