By Oluwaseun Sonde

Texas Governor, Greg Abbott who confirmed the horrific incident of mass shooting on Tuesday, said that 14 schoolchildren and one teacher were killed at an elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, USA.

Speaking to reporters after the incident, Abbott narrated that an 18-year-old gunman opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, a small community about 80km (50 miles) west of San Antonio.

The Governor further explained that the gunman was killed, apparently by police officers responding to the scene.

"It is believed that he abandoned his vehicle and entered into the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde with a handgun and he may have also had a rifle, but that is not yet confirmed,” Abbott said.

Meanwhile, United States President, Joe Biden expressed sadness over the elementary school shooting, tweeted on Tuesday, "These kinds of mass shootings rarely happen elsewhere in the world.

"Why are we willing to live with this carnage? Why do we keep letting this happen? Where in God’s name is our backbone to have the courage to deal with it? It’s time to turn this pain into action".

Biden grieved over the horrible incident particularly killing of fourteen schoolchildren, said "tonight, there are parents who will never see their child again. Parents who will never be the same.

"To lose a child is to have a piece of your soul ripped away forever. I ask the nation to pray for them to give them strength in the darkness".

Vice President, Kamala Harris on tweets, reacted to the mass shooting of elementary schoolchildren in Texas, called for action to prevent this unfortunate incident from happening again.

According to her, "Tonight in Uvalde, Texas, there are parents who lost children. Families who have lost loved ones. And many who have been injured. As a nation, we must have the courage to take action and prevent this from ever happening again.

"Enough is enough. As a nation, we must have the courage to take action and prevent this from ever happening again. It is long past time for our country to stand up to the gun lobby and pass reasonable gun safety laws", she said.

The United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres while reacting to the elementary shooting in a statement released on Tuesday, said he was deeply shocked and saddened.

Grieved as he said, "this is particularly heart-wrenching that most of the victims are children", extended his heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims and to the entire community.

Former President, Barrack Obama on his social media platform, reacted to the mass shooting, said "It’s long past time for action, any kind of action. And it’s another tragedy a quieter but no less tragic one for families to wait another day.

"Across the country, parents are putting their children to bed, reading stories, singing lullabies and in the back of their minds, they’re worried about what might happen tomorrow after they drop their kids off at school, or take them to a grocery store or any other public space.

The Ex-President said he and his wife, Michelle Obama grieved with victims families in Uvalde, who are experiencing pain no one should have to bear.

"We’re also angry for them. Nearly ten years after Sandy Hook and ten days after Buffalo, our country is paralyzed, not by fear, but by a gun lobby and a political party that have shown no willingness to act in any way that might help prevent these tragedies".

Obama prayed that God should bless the memory of the victims, and in the words of Scripture, heal the broken hearted and bind up their wounds.
