The management of National Youth Service Corps NYSC has cleared the air over an online publication with the caption "Corps member found dead with body parts missing days after she was allegedly abducted on her way to Ogun State Orientation camp".
In a statement released by the Scheme Spokesman, Eddy Megwa on Saturday, while the management confirmed that indeed the Scheme lost a Prospective Corps Member by name, Miss Eunice Chioma Igweike who set out for NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Sagamu Ogun State, having been deployed to the State for National Service under 2022 Batch B Service Year.
The statement further explained that a call by her elder brother to NYSC on 20th July, 2022 reporting that he had not been able to reach her sister on phone since her departure to NYSC Ogun Camp from Aba, Abia State prompted the Scheme to contact the security agencies in order to know her whereabouts.
The Management stated clearly that on Thursday, 21st July, 2022 the Chioma Igweike remains which were intact, and not mutilated as reported in some media were recovered along Sagamu-Imota Road and deposited in the morgue.
While the management and the entire members of National Youth Service Corps felt highly diminished by the death of Eunice Chioma Igweike, "a promising young Nigerian that would have been a great ambassador of her family, contributing her quota to nation building", NYSC said.
The Director-General NYSC, Brigadier General MK Fadah, Management and the entire members of NYSC Family commiserated with Igweike Family on the demise of the young lady.
In the same vein, the Scheme extended condolences to the Ohafia Community, the Government and people of Abia State over the death of the Prospective Corps Member.
NYSC noted that Security Agencies are working round the clock to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of Miss Igweike, prayed that God in His infinite mercy rest her soul in peace and bliss.
