Nigeria's First Lady, Dr Aisha Buhari has said that Nigeria can boast of more than 10,000 medicinal plants for different ailments but only about 20 percent is so far utilized.
Aisha Buhari who made this known on Saturday when she declared open the Conference on Traditional Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (TCAM) for Nigerian Indigenous Medicinal Plants.
According to her, "TCAM is a very important healthcare service delivery system recognized by the World Health Organisation which includes health practices, interventions, other than the conventional medicine".
The First Lady called for gradual integration of TCAM into Nigeria’s healthcare system, while secured the Ministry of Health’s commitment to facilitate the wide scale adoption of traditional and alternative medicine in orthodox medical practice.
She led the participants of the conference to tour the exhibitions stands of the Nigerian TCAM practitioners where they saw an array of medicinal plants and foods that serves as medicines for cure and prevention of some diseases that are bedeviling our nation.
