Shuaibu boasts of new DG to consolidate NYSC gains of past 3yrs

The former Director General of National Youths Service Corps NYSC, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim has boasted that the new DG, Brigadier Muhammed Fadah will consolidate the scheme gains of past three years, especially on the multiplicity of partnership with both govt and non-govt organisation for national development. 


The ex-DG who disclosed this at the handing and taking over ceremony of Brigadier General Fadah as the 19th Director General of the scheme in Abuja on Wednesday, congratulated the new DG, prayed that the Almighty will guide him and wished him a successful tenure in office.


Shuaibu, while enumerating the areas of focus of his administration, in addition to deliberate consolidation of the achievement of the past administration, the ex-DG was happy to state that with staff cooperation and support, there are numerous achievements recorded.


According to him, "We were able to sanitize the Mobilisation process, especially by blocking unqualified persons from participating in the National Service. In addition to ensuring a robust Staff welfare, we facilitated the implementation of the increase in the allowance of Corps members among other improved welfare packages.


"We equally implemented the newly approved expanded administrative structure of the scheme. This is in addition to ensuring harmonious management/labour relations through effective interaction.


"As part of our efforts of stemming the unemployment tide, my administration succeeded in establishing North Central Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Centre at Keffi, Nasarawa and took steps to ensure effective utilization of similar one in Gombe, also completed the Zonal Skill Acquisition Centres for the Northwest and Southwest".


General Ibrahim also mentioned achievement of the establishment of NYSC Radio and Television stations to ensure adequate sensitization of the general public on programmes and developmental strides of the federal government, and to serve as training grounds for corps members with interest in broadcast journalism.


"Another achievement is the sustained advocacy for establishment of NYSC Trust Fund, including hosting a symposium on the imperative of the Fund in October 2021 which resulted in its Bill passage by the House of Representatives, while awaiting concurrence by the Senate before its transmission for Presidential assent, among other achievements".


The ex-DG expressed profound gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for finding him worthy of appointment of Director General of NYSC, pledged his continued loyalty to the Federal Government and promised to continue to do his best in service to the nation in whatever capacity he find himself.


He thanked the Minister and the entire management of Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development for the encouragement. "I will fail to mention the cooperation and support from the National Governing Board and other stakeholders in our efforts to sustain the lofty ideals of the NYSC scheme".


The new Director General, Brigadier Fadah gave assurance that all the past achievements would be sustained and that pending projects would be completed, while appealed to the management of the scheme to give their maximum support for effective service delivery.
