The South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa has spoken to Ukraine's President, Zelensky Volodymyr while both agreed on the need for a negotiated end to the ongoing war betweenUkraine and Russian invasion.
South African President who made this known on his social media platform on Thursday, said they discussed how the war has impacted Ukraine’s place in global supply chains, including its position as a major exporter of food to African continent.
According to the President, "I had a telephone conversation with President Zelensky Volodymyr of Ukraine to discuss the conflict in Ukraine and its tragic human cost, as well its global ramifications.
"We agree on the need for a negotiated end to the conflict which has impacted Ukraine’s place in global supply chains, including its position as a major exporter of food to our continent. President Zelenskyy anticipates closer relations with Africa in future".
Also, Ukraine's Zelensky tweets, "Had a conversation with Ramaphosa. Told about our resistance to Russian aggression. Discussed the threat of a global food crisis, deepening relations with the Republic of South Africa and cooperation within international organizations".
The Russian invasion of Ukraine began on 24 February and has left thousands dead and displaced, while United Nations has said that more than ten million Ukrainians have now fled the country to escape Russia’s “senseless war”.
