Flags in Uganda flies at half-mast in honor of late Speaker



Uganda's President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has directed all flags in Uganda to be flown at half-mast until the final burial of the late Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah who died in the hospital on Sunday, 20th March, 2022.


Museveni made this known on his verified Twitter handle on Monday while the President extended his condolences, the condolences of his family and of all Ugandans to the children of Oulanyah and to his wider family.


Museveni announced the death of the Speaker, Oulanyah with his deepest sadness on Sunday when he got the information through his people and doctor who were taking care of him at the intensive care unit before his demise.


The President said Ugandan Government will always stand with Oulanyah's family, activated the National Organizing Committee, under Honorable Babalanda, to organise the official burial of the Late Speaker.


The President's wife, Janet Museveni said on tweets, "it is a very sad day for Uganda as we mourn the untimely death of Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah. We pray for God's comfort and peace for his family during this very difficult time.


Jacob Oulanyah was an agricultural economist, lawyer and politician, who served as the Speaker of the 11th Parliament of Uganda. MP for Omoro County, borned 23 March 1965 (age 56 years), Gulu, Uganda.
